Dr. Amit Dutt is a Professor at the Department of Genetics, University of Delhi South Campus since February 2024. He previously held the position of Principal Investigator at the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research, and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) at the Tata Memorial Centre in Mumbai (2010-2023).  Dr. Dutt holds two doctoral degrees – the first in Plant Genetics from ICGEB/JMI in New Delhi, and the second in Developmental Biology from the esteemed Institute of Life Sciences at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. He pursued his postdoctoral studies at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston. Dr. Dutt's research group utilize a cutting-edge, genome-wide approach, developing innovative computational tools to analyze vast datasets of cancer genomes. This analysis is then combined with in-vitro and in-vivo functional studies, allowing them to identify critical genetic alterations that drive the development and progression of cancer. Additionally, his lab delves into the intriguing role of microbial agents in human cancers, opening exciting new possibilities for therapeutic interventions. The impact of Dr. Dutt's work is recognized worldwide, and he has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards. These accolades include the Swiss National Science Foundation fellowship, the Julius Klaus Foundation award, the Ramalingaswami Fellowship, the Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance Fellowship, the YIM Boston Young Scientist Award, the Outstanding Alumni Award from JMI, the DBT Tata Innovation Fellowship, inclu the most coveted Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in Medicine. Dr. Dutt actively serves on the Editorial Boards of scientific journals, and actively lends his expertise to several scientific advisory committees and selection panels for various government and private organizations.
